Review of Psychological Tests

Instructions: This paper is a description and critical review of two specific tests or assessment instruments available in an area of personal interest, and within the scope of practice for professional counselors or school counselors. Each instrument review should also include current literature from a scholarly source (peer -reviewed articles) in which the instrument is discussed or used. The instruments should both claim to measure the same thing (for example, depression), and your job will be to select the one that does it best, based on a review of the available literature. APA formatting is required!

Summary Information: Summaries should include a description of each instrument you are going to discuss, its purpose, theoretical foundation, how it is administered, appropriate populations, time to administer, cost, and where it can be purchased. Please make sure this information is current. You may obtain this information from the test publisher’s web site.

Review of Psychological Tests

Critical Review: Critical reviews for each instrument should address all technical factors covered in class. These include specific data on the reliability and validity of the instrument (do not just say it is reliable and valid, cite numbers). Further, your reviews should address cultural factors discussed in published reviews for each instrument. If the reviews do not address cultural variables, then give your opinion based on the demographics of the normative group or other issues you notice. Your sources of information should include information from the test publisher, and/or relevant published articles addressing the reliability and validity of the instruments (not non-scholarly websites such as Wikipedia), and these references should be cited. It is not necessary to obtain a copy of the test itself.

Conclusion: You should present a conclusion (minimum 1 page) supporting your recommendation for or against the use of each instrument for a specific population of your choice.
