Choose a symptom (e.g. depression), disorder (e.g. hypertension), or problem (e.g. family  violence) in which you are interested and discuss it from one of the following  theoretical perspectives.

Health and Mental Health integration:

You must address the mind-body connection by discussing the wholistic impact of health and mental health. Please be sure you draw upon theories of health covered in class e.g. health beliefs, theory of reasoned action, etc.

Neurobiology:

A section on neurobiology is required which may include stress theory.

Diversity:

Diversity issues must also be included. You don’t have to cover them all, but you need to demonstrate an awareness of how these factors (e.g. class, gender, culture, race, sexual orientation) may impact your topic (for example, women who have been victims of domestic violence and the relationship to cardiovascular disease).

Treatment:

A 1-2-page section on treatment is required. Be sure the treatment flows from your theoretical perspective.

Format

8-10 pages; double spaced

Use 12 font and normal margins. APA style is required (which includes headings).

At least 5 references are required

Due date/times and delivery methods: Papers are due the last week of class. An actual date will be identified by your instructor.

Evaluate the ease or difficulty of applying this theory to the clinical practice setting

Did the level of abstraction make it more difficult?

Was there sufficient pragmatic adequacy to facilitate application?

Were empirical indicators readily available?

For what patient settings is this theory particularly suited?

Are their patient settings that would be inappropriate for the application of this theory?
