You are asked to identify careers of your grandparents, parents, aunts/uncles, your siblings, and yourself. Once you have this information, you will create a visual genogram identifying the person, relationship, age, and significant careers for each person. (Note – some family members may have more than one career – e.g., someone retires from the local police force and now works security for a local school district). You will list the major careers. Stay at home parents is a career; this needs to be included as well.
The purpose of this assignment is to explore the messages and influences from your family. The focus of this assignment is on your family, not yourself. As you find out information, reflect upon patterns, themes, gender assigned roles, culture, and the role of society to name a few. Basically, what have you learned about patterns and influences? It will be helpful to discuss the genogram assignment with members of your family to seek input, information, and their perspective.

Family Career Genogram Assignment
Your submitted paper is to be completed in APA format. It should be 4-5 pages in total, not including the title page (one page for visual genogram and 3-4 pages of text responding to questions). There is no need for an abstract or reference page since this is a reflective assignment that relies upon your family as a source. As such, no additional research or citations are required. This assignment is for your own personal and professional growth and insight. Yes, it will be graded, but the real purpose behind this assignment is to help you understand how influences have actually shaped your career path and those individuals with whom you will work in the future.
