As we move towards the end of the semester, it becomes of greater importance to consider the ways in which group counseling can apply to a variety of clients and settings. Supplemental materials provided this week are related to broader communities, or have the goal of bettering relationships and integration into client community. Importantly, it is very likely that as group counselors you will encounter students who will share our view and others who may challenge our perspectives. In either case, it is our work to establish safety, growth, and a therapeutic environment.

Think of at least two ways that you would intentionally incorporate facilitators’ and members’ sociocultural identities and experiences into the group as a facilitator, starting from the first meeting through the end of the group. Additionally, discuss what you would find most challenging about incorporating diversity and social justice into your group work and why.
