Assignment Description

In this assignment, you will find, analyze, and determine the validity (with support) of real-life logical arguments using the skills taught in class. You will also compare/contrast between true conclusions and valid arguments.

Learning Outcome

Students will use Truth Tables/Logical Reasoning to determine the validity of an argument.

Directions

1. Find an example of an argument in everyday life (for example, a meme on social media, an advertisement on television or a poster or magazine, a quote from a movie, etc.). You must include your source with the original argument to receive full credit.
2. Analyze for the underlying assumptions (premises) for the argument (conclusion) and list them,

3. For the argument you selected check the validity of the argument using one of the methods we discussed (Truth Tables, Common Logical Valid Arguments/Fallacies such as Contrapositive, Inverse, Converse, etc.) and support your decision as to why you found the argument Valid or Invalid.
4. Finally, discuss the difference between a conclusion statement that is a true statement versus a valid argument.
