Sociological Perspectives on Family

The goal of this project is to develop within each of you a level of sociological self-consciousness as it relates to your own experiences of family I am an African American Male.

Select a sociological concept which best helps you to understand some facet of your own family background. The list of possibilities is limitless. Perhaps during your reading or class exploration, some specific concept stood out as particularly interesting and relevant to your own experience. To name a few, examples might include concepts of social class, ethnicity, stratification, social mobility, gender role, socialization, divorce, reconstituted family, and etcetera.

Research this concept using course materials and at least 3 otherreputable sources and narrow it down to something more specific. For example, you might decide to narrow down your topic to explore how gender roles/gender socialization have impacted your status and social mobility. Again, there are numerous possibilities, and your selection may depend to some extent on your own creativity. Be sure to submit your topic for approval + your 3 additional references as indicated in the course calendar.

Upon topic approval, begin your paper by discussing the concept and offering a sociologically analysis of it. Here, in your introduction, it is critical to explain the social concept you will be exploring—define it, and give examples. This helps to set the stage before transitioning into discussion how the concepts explored related specifically to you.
